SOS MEDITERRANEE is a civil European rescue association founded in 2015 to face the humanitarian tragedy and the lack of adequate state rescue capacity in the Mediterranean on the deadliest maritime migratory route in the world since 2014. Created by a group of European citizens, our maritime and humanitarian organization has three missions: 

  1. To rescue people in distress at sea. 
  2. To protect and assist survivors on board our ship.
  3. To bear witness and raise awareness about the tragedy unfolding in the central Mediterranean.

Today, SOS MEDITERRANEE is a network composed of four European entities (Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland) sharing the objective to support our rescue operations at sea. Search and Rescue (SAR) operations have been carried out since February 2016 in the Central Mediterranean with chartered ships the Aquarius (until 2019) and now Ocean Viking. To date, over 42.600 people have been rescued by SOS MEDITERRANEE. 

As part of the creation of a new department, SOS MEDITERRANEE is looking for a Support Activities and Event Partnerships Coordinator to assist its efforts in France and contribute to its international development.

Aim of the Position

Within the Public Relations and International Development department, you will report to the Head of Public Relations and Support Activities Development, and will supervise an intern.

You will contribute to planning and ensuring the coordination and dissemination of support activities and event partnerships in France and internationally, with the aim of increasing visibility and fundraising. You will also contribute to the editorial planning and production of awareness and communications materials.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategy and Planning

  • Participate in the development of the department’s annual roadmap.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the public engagement strategy through partnerships with organizations and public figures.

2. Partnership Coordination

  • Assist in identifying and approaching potential partners.

  • Design and update detailed action plans for each project.

  • Coordinate in France and internationally the operational implementation of projects with external partners and the organization’s internal departments

  • Coordinate the production and dissemination of visibility initiatives in collaboration with partners and supporting public figures.

3. Organization of Major Events

  • Contribute to the annual planning of events in France and internationally.

  • Assist in editorial planning for events.

  • Coordinate logistical organization with service providers, partners, and internal teams.

  • Oversee communication and its dissemination in collaboration with the relevant departments.

4. Relations with Supporting Public Figures

  • Draft and disseminate information to partners and supporting public figures.

  • Contribute to tracking their involvement (interviews, audiovisual content, public support).

5. Monitoring, Reporting, and Evaluation

  • Contribute to monthly activity reports.

  • Participate in evaluating the impact of the actions carried out.

Profile Sought

Experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in organizing diverse and complex events, ideally with experience in an international context

  • Significant experience in managing nonprofit projects

  • Experience managing external service providers, ideally in audiovisual production

  • Experience organizing digital/virtual events is a plus

  • Familiarity with nonprofit, event, or influencer networks is an asset

Technical Skills

  • Project management

  • Event planning, organization, and communication

  • Understanding of the challenges and strategies of event communication

Languages

  • Native French speaker with excellent writing skills

  • Strong command of English, both written and spoken

Tools

  • Proficiency in MS Office, layout tools, and social media communication techniques
  • Use of desktop publishing tools for content creation (Canva, Office Suite)
  • Proficiency in the Adobe Suite is a plus

Contract Conditions

  • Preferred start date: early October
  • Position based in Marseille
  • Evening and weekend availability required, with compensatory time off
  • Frequent travel required
  • Possible to work remotely 2 days per week
  • Type of contract: Permanent contract (CDI)

  • Full-time position – Fixed working days scheme – 218 working days per full calendar year

  • 25 paid vacation days and 11 additional rest days per year

  • Gross monthly salary: between €3,000 and €3,500, depending on experience and in accordance with the current salary scale

  • 100% of health insurance premiums covered by the employer

  • Meal vouchers of €9 each, with 60% covered by the employer

  • 50% reimbursement of public transport pass; sustainable mobility allowance
