SOS MEDITERRANEE is a civil European rescue association founded in 2015 to face the humanitarian tragedy and the lack of adequate state rescue capacity in the Mediterranean on the deadliest maritime migratory route in the world since 2014. Created by a group of European citizens, our maritime and humanitarian organisation has three missions:
- To rescue people in distress at sea.
- To protect and assist survivors on board our ship.
- To bear witness and raise awareness about the tragedy unfolding in the central Mediterranean.
Currently, SOS MEDITERRANEE is a network composed of four European entities (Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland) sharing the objective to support our rescue operations at sea. Search and Rescue (SAR) operations have been carried out since February 2016 in the Central Mediterranean off the Libyan coasts with the chartered ships Aquarius and Ocean Viking. To date, over 40.000 people have been rescued by SOS MEDITERRANEE.
Today, SOS MEDITERRANEE is willing to launch an air operation in order to locate alerted distress cases and spot unalerted ones.
Aim of the position
As part of the launch of a new air operation, SOS MEDITERRANEE is currently looking for a HR Development and Operations Officer.
Under the management of the HR and Finance manager, this role combines strategic HR project coordination with day to day operational support for the HR department.
Key responsibilities
Mission 1: Support the launch of the air operation
- Liaise with existing NGOs carrying the same kind of activities to collect their support and feedbacks
- Identify and recommend suitable employment solutions (e.g., aerial umbrella companies or intermediary structures)
- Contribute to the definition and implementation of appropriate contractual frameworks (contract types, duration, legal obligations, etc.)
- Conduct comparative analysis of available insurance options (health, life/disability, liability, etc.)
- Propose rotation schedules adapted to operational and regulatory requirements
- Support the definition of a time-off and leave policy specific to this activity
- Conduct legal and regulatory monitoring (labor law, international employment rules, etc.)
- Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of required personnel.
Mission 2: Support to the HR department in the daily activities
- Propose improvements related to the HR processes and policies
- Contribute to the development of middle and long-term HR projects and policies
- Support the HR department with recruitment when required
- Support any HR team members whenever it is required
Profile sought
Qualification and experience:
- Diploma of higher education (DUT), bachelors BA or BSc in HR management or social sciences, economy
- Master degree in human resources management
- Previous work experience of minimum 3 years in human resources
- Previous experience in launching new project or project coordination

Contract conditions
- Type of contract : Fixed term contract

- Salary : From 2400 € to 3000 € gross/monthly according to the experience
- Food Vouchers (60% taken in charge by the employer)
- Complementary health insurance (100% taken in charge by the employer)
