SOS MEDITERRANEE is a civil European rescue association founded in 2015 to face the humanitarian tragedy and the lack of adequate state rescue capacity in the Mediterranean on the deadliest maritime migratory route in the world since 2014. Created by a group of European citizens, our maritime and humanitarian organisation has three missions:

  1. To rescue people in distress at sea.
  2. To protect and assist survivors on board our ship.
  3. To bear witness and raise awareness about the tragedy unfolding in the central Mediterranean.

Job description

Today, SOS MEDITERRANEE is a network composed of four European entities (Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland) sharing the objective to support our rescue operations at sea. Search and Rescue (SAR) operations have been carried out since February 2016 in the Central Mediterranean off the Libyan coasts with the chartered ships Aquarius and Ocean Viking. To date, over 41.700 people have been rescued by SOS MEDITERRANEE.

Responsibilities

SOS MEDITERRANEE is currently looking for a Media Producer. Reporting to the operational communication department, the multimedia producer implements the operational communications strategy in producing audiovisual content, archiving and sharing the multimedia content of the operations.

Mission 1: Equipment management & digital assets management

  • Ensure the good maintenance of the onshore and onboard audiovisual equipment
  • Filter audiovisual material during operations and disseminate to SOS MEDITERRANEE network and external partners
  • Ensure the archiving of all new audiovisual material produced during operations
  • Improve the archival procedure within SOS MEDITERRANEE network and ensuring assets are properly tagged, organized, and accessible to all teams accross the network
  • Responsible for the digital asset management tools, including asset tagging, organization, and user training.
  • Enhance the archival structure and ensure proper maintenance through the integration of a NAS (Network-Attached Storage) system.
  • Provide consistent support and oversight for online storage softwares to maintain an efficient and accessible digital asset infrastructure.

Mission 2: Graphic design and branding

  • Ensure consistency in the organization’s visual identity across all platforms and materials.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive branding guidelines to align with organizational goals.
  • Create high-quality graphic content tailored to various communication needs, including campaigns, events, and publications.

Mission 3: Audiovisual training and support

  • Assess audiovisual training needs for key personnel and organize discussions, training sessions, and briefings on communication tools and best practices.
  • Provide guidance to SOS staff in operations on recording and capturing audiovisual content effectively.
  • Support the SOS network with expertise in editing, graphics, and the use of audiovisual tools.

Mission 4: Functional management

  • Recruit and ensure the briefing of his/her functional reports in their new positions
  • Ensure the debriefing of his/her functional reports following rotation
  • Participate in the definition of his/her team’s objectives and conducts annual performance review for team members
  • Ensure a technical support to their teams

Mission 5: Representation

  • Participates to external events related to technical AV issues
  • Acts as a spoke related to audiovisual projects or events

Mission 6: Reporting

  • Provide datas and information to report on audiovisual production activities

Profile sought

Qualification and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher diploma in audiovisual technologies or equivalent
  • A good knowledge of ethical aspects of communication, copyright and legal aspects
  • Good knowledge of photography and video shooting
  • 3 or more years of professional experience with audiovisual content production with editing and script writing
  • Previous experience in humanitarian sector and crisis management
  • Excellent command in professional video and photo post-production softwares required (Adobe Creative Cloud Suite Première pro, Photoshop, Indesign, Acrobat, After Effect, Illustrator, Lightroom, Bridge).
  • Knowledge of the Office package (Word, Excel)
  • Good knowledge of motion design & graphic design is an asset

Contract conditions

  • Fixed-term contract
  • Starting date : beginning of february
  • End of contract : until June 30 (because the department is currently being reorganized)
  • On-call duty on weekends; recovery system implemented
  • Salary : the salary will be determined based on the experience of the candidate and the country of residence for this assignment (in France, the salary will be in between the following range: 2.200€ – 3.000€ monthly gross)
