18:00 Ocean Viking launches RHIBs for a closer assessment.

18:04 Ocean Viking is contacted by IT Vessel CP319 on VHF.

Ocean Viking informs CP319 that its personnel on the RHIBs are engaged in stabilising the distress case through life jacket distribution and inquires if CP319 intends to complete the rescue operation by taking survivors aboard.

CP319 Initially responds that Ocean Viking should proceed with transferring the survivors onto its own vessel, but shortly thereafter clarified they are awaiting instructions from ITMRCC.

18:19 The duty officer on CP 319 ask Ocean Viking to call MRCC Malta as the competent SRR authority.

18:22 Ocean Viking calls MRCC Malta via Sat Phone to report the situation and request instructions. The duty officer is unavailable.
