After overhearing Libyan Coast Guard patrol vessel on Channel 16 and spotting a vessel on radar, Ocean Viking calls them on VHF. LCG orders Ocean Viking to go North.

Ocean Viking emails JRCC Tripoli (Italy MRCC and MRCC Malta in copy) to announce the bridge was ordered to go North and that it is constrained to abandon the rescue but remains available for assistance if needed.
This vessel wishes to point out that it has been placed in a situation obliging it to contravene international maritime law and to fail in the Master’s duty to render assistance to persons in distress at sea, as stipulated under UNCLOS Article 98 and SOLAS Chapter V, Regulation 33. MV Ocean Viking has been informed that the persons in distress have not been rescued and brought to a place of safety, implying a continued violation of the Master’s duty to render assistance.
MV Ocean Viking is currently approximately 28 Nautical Miles from the distress case and remains able to provide assistance.
