Our hotline received information on a boat in distress at sea. We received
the information from a relative, so the information is from a few hours ago
(see timestamp):

98 @ 05:51 CET 02 MAR Type and color of the boat: unknown, but they run out
of fuel

General conditions: at sea for 3 days, people are sick and they have run out
of food and water.

General conditions: they are adrift because the engine is broken, the waves are high and they are afraid for their lives.

At 1510 Z, our aircraft ALBATROSS UNO, call sign HB-LWA, spotted a Distress Case, which we assigned the reference number ADC034.

This case is believed to be the same as AP0126.

We issued a Mayday Relay at 1513 z.

Please find below information on the case:

· ADC034 was spotted in position 35 32 N 015 33 E, at 1510Z.

· The distress case is a blue wooden boat, potantially with 2 decks.

· Overcrowded with about 100 POB

· All people on board are exposed to the elements and with no LSA.

· The boat is adrift.

· The boat is unseaworthy and inapt for navigation on the high seas.

As per our last E-Mail sent at 1248z, our aircraft ALBATROSS UNO, call sign HB-LWA, spotted a Distress Case, which we assigned the reference number ADC036.
At 1512Z, while our aircraft was back on scene of ADC036, we witnessed the interception of the distress case by a Libyan Coast Guard PB in position 34 14 N 013 53 E.

Blue wooden boat.
Overcrowded with about 80 POB.
No LSA on board.

At 04:15 UTC MV Ocean Viking is 1.0 NM from the subject boat and observes
what follows:
the white rubber boat is unseaworthy, inapt for navigation in high seas,
overcrowded with about 50 people on board, all exposed to the elements, no
Life Saving Appliances available.
It is ascertained that the distress phase exists as the persons on board are
threatened by grave and imminent danger of being lost and require immediate
assistance.
At 04:08 UTC MV Ocean Viking called via Sat Phone Tripoli JRCC
(00218217173337); No Answer.
This is a case of force majeure (ref. SOLAS Art. IV (b)) imposing to retrieve
persons in danger of being lost at sea, as stipulated by the relevant
International Maritime Conventions, therefore MV Ocean Viking will proceed
to the assistance of these persons in distress, while keeping competent RCCs
duly informed.”

MV Ocean Viking is proceeding towards the target, about 70NM away, ready to
provide first assistance.
