STILL AT SEA: Ten Years of Rescue in the Central Mediterranean

SOS MEDITERRANEE marks ten years of civilian search and rescue operations at sea. Since 2016, the organisation has assisted 43,078 people in distress across 457 rescue operations in the Central Mediterranean, first with its vessel Aquarius and later with the Ocean Viking.

To mark this milestone, SOS MEDITERRANEE is publishing a ten-year report examining how a preventable humanitarian catastrophe has unfolded in the Central Mediterranean and assessing the human and political consequences of a decade of shrinking state-led rescue and expanding border externalisation.

As it enters its second decade of operations, SOS MEDITERRANEE reaffirms its commitment to rescue, protect and bear witness.
