Rajan is a Hindu farmer from Bangladesh, a country with a Muslim majority. He is married with a ten-month-old son.
He describes a long history of persecution of Hindu families in Bangladesh, which he says has intensified in recent years. The immediate trigger for his departure was the killing of a friend from his village – burned to death by religious extremists. He feared for his own life.

His wife, infant son, and parents remain in Bangladesh. He says they are effectively confined to their home due to safety concerns, unable to move freely.

Rajan is trying to reach Europe to find safety. He states that India, despite being a neighboring country with a large Hindu population, is not accepting Bangladeshi Hindu – which is why he is not seeking refuge there.
