Selam is an 18-year-old Ethiopian who has been traveling for two years alongside his 17-year-old best friend.

They left Ethiopia fleeing war, making their way through Sudan and Libya over the Course of a year. They then spent another year imprisoned in Tripoli, locked in a house with over 80 other people, subjected to repeated violence and deprived of adequate food and without access to clean water.

Despite everything, the two friends stayed together throughout the journey.

“My country is at war. Reaching Italy feels very good, the end of a very long and difficult way. Having my best friend with me through this means everything to me.”
