10 years of shame

10.3.2023

10 years of tears, 10 years of trauma, 10 years of death, 10 years of shame in the Mediterranean.

On 3 October 2013, 368 women, men and children lost their lives in a terrible shipwreck near Lampedusa, on Europe’s doorstep.

This shipwreck shocked the world. But only for a while. For 10 years, the images of shipwrecks and tragedies have not ceased.

Lampedusa was forgotten.

This humanitarian crisis in the Mediterranean is killing people. Since 2014, at least 28,000 children, women and men have drowned, with total indifference on the part of European governments. A look back at this humanitarian tragedy in the Mediterranean over the past 10 years.
